Project Overview
Some projects are memorable because of the finished rooms.
Others are memorable because of everything it took to create them.
This collaboration with William Peacock Design is one of those projects.
Featured in Savannah Magazine, this Ford Field & River Club home celebrates bold color, layered patterns, personal collections, and unexpected details. Every room tells a story, and nearly every custom soft furnishing required a solution that extended beyond traditional fabrication.
Our scope included custom valances, traversing drapery, Roman shades, shutters, slipcovers, upholstery, bedding, bed skirts, decorative table skirts, and other custom soft furnishings throughout the home. More importantly, we served as the fabrication partner that helped transform ambitious design ideas into functional, beautifully executed pieces.
This project is a perfect example of what becomes possible when designers have a workroom capable of creating solutions—not simply producing standard products.
A Home Filled with One-of-a-Kind Details
Every room presented opportunities to create something unique.
Instead of relying on standard specifications or repeating familiar treatments, each space called for thoughtful problem-solving, careful planning, and a willingness to develop custom fabrication techniques that supported the designer’s vision.
The result is a home where the craftsmanship is just as intentional as the design itself.
Engineering a Functional Box Pleat
One of the project’s most technically demanding elements was the custom traversing drapery in the primary bedroom.
The designer envisioned the structured appearance of a box pleat while still allowing the drapery panels to open and close every day. Traditionally, these two characteristics don’t exist together. Box pleats are most often used on stationary decorative panels because they aren’t designed to travel smoothly across a track.
Rather than suggesting an alternative pleat style, our workroom explored different construction methods until we developed a custom two-prong inverted pleat stitched from the back. The finished result maintained the tailored appearance of a box pleat while providing the functionality the room required.
It’s the kind of solution that happens behind the scenes—but it’s exactly the type of expertise that allows a designer’s vision to remain intact.
Making Every Yard Count
The large-scale floral fabric selected for the primary bedroom featured an oversized pattern repeat that required careful matching throughout every drapery panel.
Projects like this naturally generate additional fabric because preserving the pattern takes priority over maximizing yardage.
Rather than viewing those remaining cuts as waste, we looked for opportunities to extend the design throughout the room.
The remaining fabric became custom bed skirts and tailored bedside table skirts, allowing the pattern to continue throughout the space while creating a beautifully coordinated bedroom.
Thoughtful fabrication isn’t simply about constructing individual pieces. It’s about seeing possibilities throughout an entire room.
Beautiful Design That Still Works
One of our favorite details from this project is also one of the most practical.
The custom bedside table skirts conceal open storage beneath the tables, helping maintain a clean, finished appearance. Hidden within the pleated design are discreet openings that allow the homeowners to access the storage without removing the skirts.
It’s a small detail that many visitors will never notice—but one that significantly improves how the room functions every day.
The best custom solutions often solve practical challenges so seamlessly that they almost disappear.
The Details That Reward a Closer Look
This home is filled with thoughtful details that reveal themselves gradually.
The living room valances feature a vibrant contrast fabric tucked inside the pleats, creating unexpected moments of color as the folds move. A Scalamandré trim ties together neighboring spaces, reinforcing the home’s layered design story.
The dining room slipcovers continue the same idea with contrasting fabric hidden inside their pleats, creating subtle visual interest that rewards a closer look.
These details aren’t necessary.
They’re intentional.
And they’re often the difference between a room that looks complete and one that feels truly custom.
Turning Personal Artwork into a Custom Window Treatment
Perhaps the most meaningful piece in the project came later.
The homeowner had hand-stitched five needlepoint panels herself and wanted them incorporated into a custom window treatment for the library.
Working alongside William Peacock Design, we carefully planned the placement of each panel before fabricating a custom velvet valance that showcased the artwork while complementing the room’s overall design. Contrast micro welt cord framed each needlepoint, while contrast fabric inside the pleats introduced another layer of detail and craftsmanship.
Projects like this remind us that custom window treatments aren’t simply decorative. They can preserve personal stories and transform meaningful heirlooms into functional pieces that become part of everyday life.
More Than Window Treatments
While custom window treatments were an important part of this home, they were only one piece of the overall collaboration.
Throughout the project, our team fabricated:
- Custom traversing drapery
- Living room valances
- Guest room Roman shades
- Dining room chair slipcovers
- Upholstered library seating
- Custom bedding and bed skirts
- Decorative bedside table skirts
- Plantation shutters
- Custom needlepoint library valance
Having one trusted partner oversee the fabrication of multiple custom soft furnishings helped ensure consistency in craftsmanship, detailing, and execution throughout the home.
Why It Matters
Custom isn’t defined by selecting a unique fabric or trim.
True custom begins when a design calls for something that doesn’t already exist—and a skilled workroom has the experience to make it possible.
Projects like this demonstrate the value of collaborating with a full-service custom workroom early in the design process. By combining technical knowledge, fabrication expertise, and thoughtful project management, we’re able to help interior designers and homeowners move beyond standard solutions and create homes that are personal, functional, and entirely one of a kind.
