What to Expect During a Design Consultation with Savannah Window Fashions

Beginning a custom window treatment project often starts with a conversation.

Whether you're building a new home, renovating an existing property, furnishing a second home, or updating a few key spaces, our goal is to make the process organized, collaborative, and enjoyable from the very beginning.

At Savannah Window Fashions, every project begins with understanding your home, your goals, and the way you live. From there, we develop custom window treatment solutions tailored to the architecture of the home and the needs of the people who live in it.

Here's what you can expect throughout the process.

The Discovery Call

The first step is a Discovery Call.

This conversation allows us to learn more about your project, discuss your goals, and determine how we can best support you. It also gives us an opportunity to prepare for the design consultation and ensure we're bringing the most relevant ideas and product options to the table.

During the Discovery Call, we'll discuss:

Project Scope

We'll review the spaces involved, whether it's a single room, a whole-home project, new construction, or a renovation. We'll also discuss any unique architectural features that may influence window treatment selections.

Priorities & Functionality

Every project begins with understanding how the space will be used.

Light control, privacy, views, motorization, energy efficiency, and everyday functionality all play an important role in determining the right solution for each room.

Design Direction

We'll discuss the overall design of the home and review any inspiration images, fabrics, furnishings, or finishes that may help guide the conversation.

Prior to the Discovery Call, we encourage clients to share photographs of the space along with any window treatment inspiration they may have collected. This helps us better understand the project before we meet.

Investment Range

Every project is unique, and investment levels vary based on the scope of work, product selections, materials, and operating systems chosen. Discussing investment expectations early allows us to recommend solutions that align with both the goals of the project and the overall vision for the home.

The Design Consultation

The design consultation is where ideas begin to take shape.

Depending on the scope of the project, consultations typically last one to two hours and take place in your home so we can evaluate the space within the context of the architecture, furnishings, natural light, and surrounding design elements.

During the consultation, we'll:

Review Window Treatment Options

We'll explore product types, fabrics, materials, operating systems, and design details that support both the aesthetic and functional goals of the project.

This may include drapery, Roman shades, woven wood shades, shutters, blinds, motorization options, decorative hardware, and layered window treatment solutions.

Evaluate Materials & Performance

We'll review how various materials may perform within the space and discuss considerations such as privacy, light control, UV protection, functionality, and long-term performance.

Our role is to guide clients through the available options and recommend solutions that are appropriate for both the design and the way the room will be used.

Measure & Document the Space

During the consultation, we photograph and measure each window, document important architectural details, and gather the information needed to begin the specification process.

These measurements allow us to develop accurate recommendations and prepare a detailed proposal following the consultation.

Finalize Design Direction

The consultation is also an opportunity to refine selections, discuss priorities, and establish a clear path forward for the project.

For the most productive experience, we recommend that all primary decision-makers attend the consultation.

Why We Charge a Design Consultation Fee

The design consultation is a professional design service, and the consultation fee reflects the time, preparation, expertise, and specification work involved.

Prior to the appointment, we review project information, prepare product recommendations, and gather resources that support the goals discussed during the Discovery Call.

Following the consultation, our team develops detailed specifications and pricing based on the products, materials, operating systems, and design details selected during the appointment.

The consultation fee allows us to dedicate the time and attention necessary to develop thoughtful recommendations and provide an accurate, detailed proposal tailored specifically to the project.

Preparing for Your Consultation

A few simple steps can help us make the most of our time together.

Share Inspiration Ahead of Time

Prior to the consultation, we encourage clients to provide photographs of the space along with any inspiration images, fabric selections, furnishings, or design plans that may help communicate the overall vision.

Consider Your Priorities

Privacy, light control, views, motorization, and design preferences all influence the solutions we recommend. Having a general understanding of what matters most in each space can help guide the conversation.

Share Your Timeline

If you're working toward a move-in date, installation deadline, or construction milestone, we'll want to understand those timelines as early as possible.

Ensure Window Access

Access to the windows allows us to photograph, evaluate, and measure each opening efficiently during the appointment.

What Happens After the Consultation?

Following the consultation, our team begins the specification and proposal process.

We develop detailed recommendations, finalize product selections, confirm pricing, and prepare a proposal tailored to the project.

While we strive to provide proposals within three to five business days, timing may vary depending on project scope, the number of products being sourced, and the complexity of the project.

Once the proposal is approved and the initial deposit is received, we move into the ordering, fabrication, and project management phase.

From there, our team coordinates every step of the process, including product ordering, fabrication oversight, scheduling, and installation.

When installation day arrives, treatments are professionally installed, adjusted, dressed, and reviewed to ensure everything is operating and performing as intended.

Our Commitment to the Client Experience

Every recommendation we make is guided by what will best support the project, the architecture of the home, and the way the space will be used.

Our role is to provide thoughtful guidance, creative solutions, and a highly organized process from concept through installation.

Whether we're working on a historic Savannah residence, a waterfront home in Bluffton, a new build in Palmetto Bluff, or a vacation home on Hilton Head Island, our goal remains the same: creating custom window treatments that feel tailored to the home and enjoyable to live with for years to come.
