What We Took Away from IWCE 2026: Continuing Education, Strong Partnerships, and What It Means for Our Clients

Each year, I make it a priority to attend the International Window Coverings Expo (IWCE), and this year in Raleigh was no exception. It’s one of the most valuable investments we make as a company, allowing us to continue our education, spend time with industry peers, and stay closely connected to what’s evolving in our field.

This year’s IWCE took place in Raleigh, NC.

If you’re a homeowner or design professional in Savannah, Bluffton, or the surrounding Lowcountry, this is part of how we ensure you’re getting thoughtful guidance, well-executed solutions, and access to the best products available. Not just what’s familiar, but what’s new and meaningful for today’s homes, including advancements in motorization, automation, wellness-focused design, and responsibly made materials.

Why Industry Education Matters in Window Treatments

Window treatments are one of the more technical layers of a home. Between fabrication methods, hardware specifications, motorization, and installation requirements, there’s a lot happening behind the scenes that directly impacts how your project performs and how long it lasts.

That’s why continuing education isn’t optional for us, it’s essential.

IWCE offers a wide range of seminars each year, and I’m intentional about choosing sessions that will directly support our clients and the projects we’re managing.

This year, I focused on topics related to window treatment design, advancements in our industry, and ways to continue refining how we manage projects from start to finish. That includes staying current on how products are evolving—especially in areas like motorization, automation, and materials that support a healthier home—as well as improving how we guide clients through the decision-making process.

I also spent time in sessions that reinforce how we organize and manage our work behind the scenes. While that may not be something clients see directly, it’s what allows us to provide clear communication, well-planned timelines, and a smooth experience from the initial consultation through installation.

Every session I attended ties back to the same goal: making sure our clients feel confident in their decisions and supported throughout the entire process, while delivering window treatments that are designed to function well and last.

Investing in Our Team: Installation & Motorization Training

One of the highlights this year was having Patrick, our installer, attend IWCE for the first time.

Patrick brings a strong level of experience to our team, and like the rest of us, he’s committed to continuing to refine his craft. Installation is where everything comes together—or falls apart—and having an installer who understands both traditional techniques and evolving technologies is critical.

While at IWCE, Patrick focused on advanced installation methods and motorization, which continues to be one of the fastest-growing and most technical areas of our industry.

For our clients, this means:

  • Better integration of motorized systems during construction and renovation

  • More precise and reliable installations

  • Fewer delays or adjustments at the end of a project

Ongoing, hands-on education like this ensures we’re not only maintaining our standards, but continuing to improve how we execute each installation.

Vendor Relationships That Support Custom Work

Trade shows like IWCE also give us dedicated time with our vendors, which is critical for custom projects.

This year, I had the opportunity to meet with partners like Helser Brothers, Forest Drapery Hardware, and Ang Bejar to review upcoming client projects and talk through specific design and installation considerations.

One standout moment was working through a project with a very specific set of requirements that I had been refining for several weeks. The team at Ang Bejar was incredibly helpful in developing a solution, and Alberto took the time—during a very busy show—to walk through the details with me and provide an on-the-spot quote. That allowed me to finalize a multi-room estimate and present a clear, well-resolved solution to the designer and their client.

These conversations matter more than people realize. When we’re working on custom homes in areas like Palmetto Bluff, The Landings, or historic Savannah, we’re often solving for unique conditions—unusual window shapes, long spans that require specialized hardware, layered treatments with precise projection requirements, and motorization compatibility.

Having direct access to the people who manufacture these systems allows us to problem-solve early, before orders are placed and long before installation day. It’s a key part of how we deliver well-planned, highly customized solutions for our clients.

Reconnecting with Industry Peers

There’s also a relationship side to IWCE that I value just as much as the education.

I always look forward to spending time with my Mastermind group—these are women across the country who run businesses similar to mine. We share ideas, challenges, and solutions in a way that helps all of us operate at a higher level.

It’s a reminder that while our work is local, our standards are shaped by a much broader network of experienced professionals.

What This Means for Our Clients in Savannah & Bluffton

Attending IWCE each year is part of a bigger commitment we’ve made as a company.

We are not just fabricating window treatments, we are managing complex, detail-driven projects from start to finish.

That includes:

  • Understanding how materials behave over time

  • Specifying the right hardware for each application

  • Planning for motorization early in the design or construction phase

  • Coordinating with builders, designers, and installers

  • Anticipating challenges before they become costly mistakes

The knowledge we bring back from IWCE directly supports this process. It allows us to guide our clients with confidence, offer better solutions, and continue refining the experience of working with Savannah Window Fashions.

Every year, I come back from IWCE with new ideas, stronger relationships, and a clearer perspective on where our industry is heading.

And every year, it reinforces the same thing: The difference in a successful window treatment project isn’t just the finished product—it’s the knowledge, planning, and coordination that happen long before installation day.

If you’re planning a project in Savannah, Bluffton, or the surrounding areas and want guidance from a team that is actively investing in staying current and informed, we’d love to be part of your process.
